Purpose

Financial Grants available through the Alamitos Bay Sailing Foundation (ABSF) are meant to assist Long Beach based youth sailors with participation in sailing competitions and clinics outside southern California. ABSF does not provide 100% funding, but our intention is to assist and encourage amateur, championship level youth sailors to travel to compete and represent the local area.

The following events will be considered:

• Pacific Coast, Western Regional, National and World level events.
• Inter Scholastic Sailing Association (ISSA) Events and Collegiate Events
• U.S. Sailing Events
• Major Youth events such as Orange Bowl and CORK
• Championship Level Clinics
• Special/Other events may be funded, “ask”

Grant Request Guidelines

The following parameters have been set forth by the ABSF Board of Directors as the minimum criteria to be met by local area sailors wishing to apply for a financial Grant. Individuals must submit the following documents to apply for a grant:

• A complete Application with a description of the event and your funding needs.
• Along with your application, submit a “Request Letter” (or email) describing: 1) why this event is important to you, 2) what you’ve done to prepare and 3) what your goals are.
• Within 30 days after the event, submit a letter to ABSF summarizing your experience and how the grant helped you. Keep in mind, part or all of your letter may be re-printed in the ABYC Sou’wester and used on the ABSF website.

Selection Process

Grant awards will be based on several factors, including but not limited to funds available, other funding available to applicant and number of requests received. Grant recipients must reside or primarily sail out of the Long Beach area (ie: Alamitos Bay, Long Beach Harbor). A maximum of 3 Grant awards are available per sailor in a given calendar year. If the ABSF decides to offer a grant, you will receive a decision and check within 2 to 4 weeks of your application submittal. If you (the grant recipient) do not use the funds as intended, you are required to return the funds or risk exclusion from future grants.
